Ikebana 11/15/2017

I had composed this arrangement of Broom (石化エニシダ), Gerbera (ガーベラ), and Leatherleaf Fern (レザーファン).

After I practiced this style, I took a monthly test last Sunday. Actually, the mark was not so good. Some instructions from my teacher had slipped out of my mind.

A professor who came from Shizuoka prefecture arranged these flowers, and then marked our each arrangement.

I took a picture of persimmons last Monday.

Now, it's raining, which is melting the snow. I prefer rain to snow.

Ikebana 11/1/2017

I had composed this arrangement of Siberian Dogwood (サンゴミズキ), Alstroemeria (アルストロメリア), and Gold dust dracaena (ゴッドセフィアナ).

I had a chance to talk with a girl who is a high school student, after a long time. She is in the third grade in technical high school now.
When she was a junior high school student, she had wanted to be an architect. So, she chose the technical high school. However, she is going to enter a completely different department in university. She told me that she had already passed the AO exam of the university, and she changed her dream.
I was surprised to hear this. To my more surprise, she hasn't learned English since she was in the second grade in high school. When she started the second grade, she didn't choose English classes. I had thought that all high school students must study English for three years.

I don't know about other high schools, but it's not good for technical high school students to choose English classes when they are in the second grade. All high school students should learn English for three years. Some students may change their courses on the way in high school like the girl.
I'm worried about her to catch up with other students who had learned English for three years in high school when she enters university and has English classes.

Ikebana 10/18/2017 and an exhibition

IMG_1852_convert_20171022150855.jpg

The leaves have been turning to autumn colors recently.

I had composed this arrangement of Asplenium Antiquum (タニワタリ) and Carnation (カーネーション).

I arranged eight leaves of Asplenium Antiquum. Our school has strict rules of them. When we arrange them, we must use the special holder called 'Shippo (七宝)' instead of Kenzan.

I went to see an Ikebana exhibition.

I enjoyed various autumn flower arrangements.

Ikebana 10/4/2017

I saw the 'Harvest Moon' (中秋の名月) today.

IMG_1821_convert_20171004212553.jpg

I had composed this arrangement of Japanese Pampas Grass (ススキ), Gentian (リンドウ), Ground Cherry (ホオズキ), and Spray Chrysanthemum (スプレーギク).

IMG_1810_convert_20171004212447.jpg

This is a jar of hand cream. I was surprised that my Ikebana teacher taught me how to put the hand cream on the leaf of Japanese Pampas Grass. I have some hand cream at home, but she told me that only this kind of hand cream works for the leaves. It has some of peach leaf extract, which is important for the leaves. It makes them throw luster and last longer.

Ikebana 9/6/2017

IMG_1693_convert_20170909185525.jpg

I had arranged Chrysanthemum (菊).
Chrysanthemum is one of the flowers which represent fall.
Our school has a traditional way of arrangement using only chrysanthemums.
This arrangement on the photo wasn't the one, but I had to follow some of the rules.

My teacher taught me that leaves around the flower head should not be removed to make the flower look more beautiful.
I used some bamboo skewers attached stem's ends to fix the chrysanthemums. Using bamboo skewers is one of the techniques to fix flowers in the tall vase.
