I had arranged Chrysanthemum (菊).
Chrysanthemum is one of the flowers which represent fall.
Our school has a traditional way of arrangement using only chrysanthemums.
This arrangement on the photo wasn't the one, but I had to follow some of the rules.

My teacher taught me that leaves around the flower head should not be removed to make the flower look more beautiful.
I used some bamboo skewers attached stem's ends to fix the chrysanthemums. Using bamboo skewers is one of the techniques to fix flowers in the tall vase.

Aster Savatieri 都忘れ

IMG_1671_convert_20170902112513.jpg
Aster Savatieri ミヤコワスレ

I planted Aster Savatieri which I had used for Ikebana a few months ago, in my small planter because its new leaves have growed in the vase.
Now, they are blooming. They are small, but pretty.
Its Japanese name is Miyakowasure (都忘れ). 'Miyako' means the capital, while 'wasure' means forget.

I wondered why it was named originally, and I checked it on the Internet.
It is said that, in 1221, after the Jokyu Rebellion occurred, the Emperor Jyuntoku was exiled to Sado. When he saw the Miyakowasure there, he thought that it was so beautiful that he could forget the capital where he had used to be.

Japanese is a beautiful language. I'm glad that it is my mother tongue.
I've heard that a half of languages has been losing in the world. Ainu is one of endangered languages in Japan.
That's a great pity.

Ikebana 8/23/2017

IMG_1654_convert_20170823220039.jpg

I had composed this arrangement of Rose (バラ), Dendrobium Phalaenopsis (デンファレ), and Great Burnet (吾亦紅、ワレモコウ).

It's hot again these days. Today, I turned on an electric fan after a while.

I had a general checkup last month and I received the result recently.
As you may know, I hate taking barium for an upper GI X‐ray. Since I was very nervous about it, my pulse rate had been high just before it. So, a nurse didn't give me a shot which I was supposed to get for taking barium. After all, I managed to take it.

My body has been getting worse year by year. I don't want to have the general checkup anymore.
My cholesterol rate was still bad as usual. I had a high blood pressure. Moreover, I will have to go to another doctor to have checked my upper part of my body in detail.
Alas, this is aging.

I had composed this arrangement of Oldham Blueberry (ナツハゼ), Gentian (リンドウ), and Physalis Angulata (センナリホオズキ).

A flower shop clerk said that the Physalis Angulata was rare, so, my teacher and I took some photos of them.

Hydrangeas are in full bloom here now. I want to see ones in Kamakura again someday. It is called Ajisai Dera (hydrangea temple). I been there with a friend of mine when I was a high school student. We went there by train. It was the first long trip alone without an adult for me. It was a good memory.

I've been full of anxiety these days when I come to think of my old parents and other things. They are fine, but my father's memory has been getting worse. He used to be very positive, but I don't know what he is thinking. More than half of his brothers and sisters, and many friends had passed away. I can't ask him how he feels everyday. Maybe, his feeling is much worse than me. I don't know about it. Is he still positive?
My brother goes back there once a month to take care of them. My father fell down on the road the other day and he got injured his leg. So, my brother will take him to a hot spring this weekend. He is also busy with his job. We are worried about my parents in the future.

A few hours ago, my son came to my room. After he looked my book shelf, he asked me what do I want him to put in my coffin, English books? I was surprised to hear this. I've never thought about mine, my coffin. I said to him, "I'll think what would be the best for me, and I'll tell you later". However, actually I have no idea, and I don't want to think of it yet.

Ikebana 7/5/2017 / 勘違い

IMG_1535_convert_20170708122307.jpg

I had composed this arrangement of Agapanthus (アガパンサス), Ochroleuca (オクロレウカ), Spray Roses (スプレーバラ), and Leatherleaf Fern (レザーファン).

Now, the temperature in my room is 28℃. Many of the spray roses in this arrangement have been dying. I'm going to take out an electric fan from the storage this weekend.

Misunderstand

Yesterday, my father called me and said
"Mom (my mother) went to a hospital, but she hasn't come back yet. Maybe she got hospitalized, but I don't know where she is."
He sounded in a panic. I was very surprised to hear this. I said to him that he should be at home. It was around at five o'clock. According to him, my mother left home in the morning.
Firstly, I called my brother about it. He also lives far away from my parents, but he could go back there because it was Friday. It takes about three hours by car. I was thinking that I would go back by plane.

I then called some hospitals to ask whether or not my mother gets hospitalized. However, I didn't get any information.
My father said that maybe, the hospital was near a convenience store. My brother and I thought that there was no hospitals or clinics near the nearest convenience store from my parents' house.
My father said that he was going to go around the convenience store to get information. My brother told him not to use his car but walk there.

About one hour later, my mother called me that she had been in a hair salon. When she left there and was walking, she found my father walking around the convenience store. It was not the nearest convenience store from their house. It took about thirty minutes on foot from their house. It was lucky for them to meet each other.

'Hospital' is Byoin, and 'hair salon' is Biyoin, in Japanese. My father had misunderstood them.
Besides, he has a bad memory because of his age.
