実践ビジネス英語06/2018問題文

One of my English classmates and I started brushing up our English together using a monthly radio textbook, 実践ビジネス英語.
In the textbook, there is a translation task, "The Writers' Workshop". We had tried one for the May issue the other day. I admired that her translation was more simple and sophisticated than mine.

I decided to post my translation on my blog every month to motivate myself.

I tried another one, 06/2018 issue below.

The Writers’ Workshop 6月号問題文 「仕事と心理」の解説

Assuming that you were a lover of whiskey, and enjoyed sipping it every night. One night, you found there was just half bottle of your favorite brand when you were taking out. Which would you think when it happened?
“There’s only half left.”
“There’s still half left.”
Feeling sad or happy depends on your reaction.
For instance, there was a conversation like this. Picture that two colleagues, H and I were having a discussion about an error which had occurred in the arrangement of materials.

H : It can’t be in time even though we would revise the order from now on. We will have to cope with materials in stock, but what should we do?
I: No, we won’t know unless we try it. Anyway, let’s contact them.

The thoughts between H and I are completely opposite.
It was like this when they were talking about going on a trip to hot springs next consecutive holidays.

H: Unfortunately, it is too late to book any hotels because of consecutive holidays. Why don’t we go to see a movie instead of that, and then go for a drink?
I: We won’t know unless we try it. Maybe, we will find a hotel available.

online English lesson 8/11/2017

IMG_1581_convert_20170811123138.jpg

The other day, I bought some fresh coriander (パクチー) , and made some green salad including them. My son hates the fresh coriander, so I made the leftover into some soup. Even though, he didn't like it.
The fresh coriander had their little roots, so, I planted them in my small planter.

As you may know, I have taken an online lesson every day for a few years. Today, I've just achieved 20,000 minutes! Congratulations (clap)! I've learned it for 800 days (25min./per day).
However, if I went abroad to learn English for 20,000 minutes, it equals only nearly two weeks. I didn't count the sleeping time there, instead of that, I took my age into account.
My dream was to go abroad to study English. I was disappointed to know that it was only two weeks if I spent there. I'll go for it.

I've been enjoying talking with many teachers who are from various countries such as Philippine, Serbia, Montenegro, Bosnia-Herzegovina, Republic of Trinidad and Tobago, Nigeria, Zimbabwe, Mexico, Albania, and so on.
Recently I have often chosen African teachers. However, many of them don't live in their home country. I often hear that some of them live in Ukraine. I asked one of them why she chose Ukraine to live. She said that it's affordable.
I want to get used to various English.

I've taken TOEIC tests yearly, but I gave up taking it this year because I haven't had enough time to study recently.

at an English class

Adele / Rolling In The Deep

When I attended an English conversational class recently, I was surprised to hear one thing.

An American teacher said that "There is no bathrooms".
I had thought that "There are no bathrooms". I asked him about it.

He taught me that the both are correct.
When the subject is the situation of no bathrooms, you could say that there is no bathrooms.
When the subject is bathrooms, you could say that there are no bathrooms.

I joined an Ikebana Sunday Workshop last Sunday.
These works were arranged by a professor. He came from Utsunomiya. He said that when he got to Hakodate, he felt cold.

↑Dogwoods (ハナミズキ) are now in full bloom here.

I took some English tests recently. I realized that my listening ability is still not good.
I told about it to my online English teacher. I have learned the online English lessons everyday. In the lessons, I had read a news article and I had answered the questions at one lesson. After she listened to me about the result, she offered a new way to me.

The new way is that...
1. In the vocabulary part, I take a look the vocabulary and example sentences, and I repeat after the teacher.
2. Next, I don't look the article at all, and I just listen to her who reads loud one paragraph.
3. I then summarize the paragraph without looking the article.
4. Repeat like this way until the end.
5. After finishing the article, she ask me some questions.
6. I answer without looking the questions and the article.
7. After I finish the lesson, I read the aricle later.

I think this is a good learning for me. I like her teaching, so, I have chosen her as much as possible. Since she will not be avairable tomorrow, I'll ask another teacher to teach me the same way.

I have hardly studied English except online lessons since last fall. I usually learn daily news with online lessons.
The other day, I bought a workbook for TOEIC test. It looks good because it is different from other workbooks.

IMG_1482_convert_20170527202102.jpg

I tried a practice TOEIC test in this workbook last night after a long time. The result was terrible!
Listening 68/100 and Reading 50/100.
It is difficult for me to even keep my present level. I have to study hard using this workbook.

I bought used books before. One is a dictionary, and the other is a grammar book named Forest. Forest is really good.
Finding good books at a used shop is fun for me.
