Kanimeshi

(I had posted this article on August 5th originally.)

A few days later when I had posted last article on my blog, the friend who had traveled Kamakura with me called me after a long time. She hadn't known about my blog, so, I was surprised at the coincidence. I was very happy to talk with her. She talked fast as used to be. We have exchanged New Year's cards yearly, but we haven't talked for ages. She said that she told her daughter about me and she wanted to talk with me.

I got Kanimeshi, which was a boxed rice covered with crab meat. In addition, there were some sliced shiitake mushroom, green peas, and so on, on the rice. Speaking of Kanimeshi, Kanaya store is famous for it. I have eaten ones before, and they were delicious. However, Yokote Store's one was also delicious. Both stores are in Osyamanbe Cho (長万部町), Hokkaido. Osyamanbe Cho is famous for Kanimeshi. It takes about two hours or more from Hakodate by car.

My father's leg still hurts him. My brother bought a cheap cane for him, but my father doesn't want to use it. I know what he feels. My mother said that he uses it only in the house, but he doesn't walk outside. The doctor said that its bone was Okay, so, I hope he will resume walking before long.
When my brother went back to my parents last time, he complained that they had bought a new TV. They had thought that the previous TV was broken, but my brother knew that only the remote controller had a problem.
These days, I call my mother every morning to ask how father is, what is wrong, and plan for the day. I then text about them to my brother.

We live far away from each other, so, we should contact more often. This is only what I can do for my parents at present.

cheese

IMG_1531_convert_20170625190942.jpg

To be honest, I'm not a fan of cheese very much.
When I was shopping at a supermarket, I found that some kinds of luxury (for me) cheese were sold at half price because of short expiration dates. My family members love cheese, so I bought two kinds of cheese. One was Gorgonzola Dolce, and the other was Caprice des Dieux. I usually buy inexpensive cheese though.

When it was a long time ago, I tried blue cheese at a bar for the first time. I had thought that I could eat anything, but when I tried the blue cheese, I didn't think it was food.

My son said that both of the cheese tasted bitter, so, he didn't like them. However, I was surprised that the blue cheese, Gorgonzola Dolce, was very delicious. The other one, Caprice des Dieux, was good, too. I enjoyed the blue cheese with a little wine last night.
I want to buy another Gorgonzola Dolce even though it is not at a discount.

Mother's Day

IMG_1446_convert_20170515213832.jpg

I took these photos at Oniushi Park in Mori Town. Some cherry trees were in bloom still then.

As I had known that my son wouldn't do anything for me on Mother's Day as usual, I asked him to make dinner instead of me because of the Mother's Day. Actually, I wanted to teach how to set up a rice cooker. He can use a knife, but I realized that he had few opportunities to make rice using a rice cooker.

He came to the kitchen reluctantly. I taught how to make rice to him. I then left the kitchen and went to my own new room. As you may know, I had put away things in the storage room and I made my space. There are some cardboad boxes still there, but it's cozy! I left cooking dishes to him.

After a while, he called me that dinner was ready.
He prepared some fried sausages, French fries, and egg soup. As for the French fries, he referred this recipe. He was satisfied with the French fries. They were very good.
I thanked him and enjoyed the dinner. Actually, the amount of the dishes was not enough for us, so, I made another dish later though.

Cherry trees in Goryokaku Park on April 25.

Cherry trees in Goryokaku Park have yet to be in full bloom. I've been looking forward to seeing them. They will be in full bloom in a week or so.

I like stew very much. After I made soup stock from leftover of shrimp heads, I put diced tomato (canned), beans, potato, carrot, onion, mushroom, celery, parsley, broccoli, bacon, and so on.

IMG_1247_convert_20170426214449.jpg

I made a cake. It was very easy to make and I used a little butter and a fresh apple. It was delicious. I really recommend it.

mix ingredients in turn
1. 30g butter → 2. 1 egg → 3. 70g sugar → 4. 100g flour → 5. 1 teaspoon Baking Powder → 6. 70g milk → 7. sliced a small apple → 8. 30g raisins and 30g crushed walnuts

put it in the oven of 180℃ for 35minutes

IMG_1253_convert_20170426214653.jpg

I've been making dried mini tomatoes. I like them very much. They make dishes better. I dried them outside for several hours, and I then put them in the oven with 150℃ for fifteen minutes for twice (last night and this morning). However, I will need to dry them more.
According to some recipes, 100℃ in the oven is the best to make dried tomatoes, but my oven doesn't have the degree, unfortunately.

How to use the protein powder?

IMG_1163_convert_20170312150457.jpg

IMG_1162_convert_20170312150645.jpg

I joined an Ikebana Sunday Workshop today. Two works were arranged by a professor who came from Osaka.

IMG_1152_convert_20170312151518.jpg

I made a loaf of bread and some cookies using the protein powder.
However, frankly, they were not so good. They were dry. As for the cookies, they were not sweet. The protein powder includes sugar, so I didn't add any sugar. The bread didn't rise enough. My son tried a cookie, but he wouldn't eat another one. He ate the bread with jam, though. I learned that it was OK to make bread using a little of protein powder.
There is a lot of them still now.
I don't know how to use it up soon. So, I drink a cup of milk adding a table spoon of it every morning instead of my son. You may laugh with it because the protein powder was made for children.

I remember a similar story of my friend of mine. It always makes me laugh.
She likes English. She wanted her children to read weekly newspaper for children learning English. She subscribed them, but her children didn't want to read them at all. So, she read them every week instead of her children.
I felt sorry for her, but it was a funny story.
