coaching

IMG_1896_convert_20171023223945.jpg

The other day, my husband gave me two books for my birthday.
One was a book related to English in Japanese, and the other was written how to coach children.
I've finished reading them.

My son, who is a junior high school student, and I have often fought almost everyday. Our relationship has been getting worse and worse.
So, my husband is worried about us and gave me this book.

It was really good. There were some points and examples to coach children. It is good for school teachers as well.
After reading, I thought I should change my attitude toward him.
While reading the book, he came to me and said something which makes me angry. However, I told him as the book instructed. I ended up avoiding a fight between us.

I want to read and learn more about the coaching.

After four sessions of putting the mini tomatoes in the oven at 150℃ in total, dried tomatoes have done. I put them in a bag and in a freezer. The taste became dense.
When I made spaghetti for today's lunch, I added some of the dried tomatoes, some salted squid guts (Ika no Shiokara), basil sauce, and so on.

I've finished reading a book 'HOLES'.
As I had mentioned before, I bought this book at a used shop a few years ago for about $1. I occasionally go there to find a good foreign book. New foreign books are more expensive than Japanese ones, so, I like to go there. However, since the shop doesn't have many foreign books, there are few oppotunities to find my favorite books.

As for the book, HOLES, to be honest, at first, it was not so interesting for me. So, I gave up reading it on the way, and started reading another book. However, since the next book was not so exciting, I resumed reading the previous book (HOLES) in my bed little by little. I'm always sleepy at night, so, I can read a few pages at a time, sometimes even a few lines.
After I had read more than half of the book, it became interesting. The latter story of the book was written about a friendship and a survival.
I enjoyed it very much.

I like reading, but I'm often bored to read first one third or first half pages. Especially, at first, many characters confuse me.
I hope that it doesn't take a long time to finish reading the next book.

a book / A poem in praise of each country 国褒めの歌

A professor's works at an Ikebana Sunday Workshop.

The very first book which a close friend of mine had translated was published at last.
The title is "A poem in praise of each country" ( 国褒めの歌).
I'm very proud of her.
She and I met an English conversational school a long time ago. Her dream was to be a translator in those days and now it came true! She has studied English very hard and she has motivated me all the time. Although we live far away from each other now, we brush up our English by Skype a few times a week.

Apart from that the book was translated by her, this book is worth reading for all generations.
There are poems which praise many countries and also there are beautiful paintings drawn by a Japanese‐style painter next page to the poem respectively.
I hope schools adopt this book as a school text book. Children can learn not only English, but also about each countries from the poems and paintings. And they will have a dream to visit their favorite countries.
This book makes me feel comfortable.

It is around -3℃ and nearly 30 cm snow on the ground here in Hakodate.

I had finished reading a book titled Pride and Prejudice recently.
I bought it at a used shop by half price. Since it is for Japanese English learners, I could understand the story more easily than usual books in English. I enjoyed it very much. It was a love story.

IMG_9156_convert_20160110111343.jpg

I watched a TV show, which introduced a movie of 'snoopy' last month.
It also introduced its comic books. According to the TV show, all generation can enjoy them and there are some good tips how to live in them.
So, I bought them. Since they consist of four-panel cartoon and they have Japanese translation, it is easy to read.

IMG_9157_convert_20160110111439.jpg

I like a phrase that is "A FAIR FACE WILL WITHER, BUT A GOOD HEART IS THE SUN AND THE MOON!" in the first book (50's).
However, I would translate "だがよき心はいつも輝いている!" rather than "だがよき心は日々あらたなり!".

I think that translating is difficult.

a picture book / Bam and Kero's Sunday

The temperature is getting down here, but many leaves are still green.

I've been reading a book titled 'Incidents in the life of a slave girl'. I'll finish it before long, so I've been looking for the next book I'll read.
The other day, as my son wanted to sell his used toys at a thrift shop, I drove him there. I went there for the first time. Although I hadn't expected, there were some kinds of used foreign books. I enjoyed browsing all of them. And then, I chose one titled 'HOLES'. I paid only 63 yen for the book. As a matter of fact, the price was 108 yen, but I used some points which had saved when my son sold his used toys firstly. The book was used, but the appearance was very good. New foreign books are more expensive than domestic books, so, I was glad to get a good deal.

Today, I went to the library, and I borrowed some foreign picture books.
Actually, I was surprised to find a book titled 'Bam and Kero's Sunday' in English ! When my son was younger, we loved the Bam and Kero's books. I bought some of them in Japanese several years ago. However, I saw one of them in English for the first time today. These books are still popular among children, because even small pictures have small stories apart from a main story.

For example, in the picture frame, at first, the fin looked like a shark's. After all, it was not a shark, but a penguin.
