Ikebana for New Year 12/25/2012

IMG_1863_convert_20121226202854.jpg

I arranged flowers for New Year using Pine or Pinus (Wakamatsu), Ornamental kale or Brassica oleracea var. acephara (Habotan), Chloranthus (Senryo) and Mayudama.
Mayudama is a kind of ornament which is willow with white and red small balls made of rice cakes or Mochi. I heard that Hakodate had a custom putting Mayudama inside the house for New Year praying for a good harvest.

It was -9℃ and 20cm of snow today.
The supermarket I went today was piping the New Year music already.
I cleaned in the kitchen while my son cleaned the cupboard today. We will clean windows tomorrow. I hope it will be sunny and warm.
