The summer vacation is over.

I've been very busy in summer vacation. My son's school will resume from tomorrow and I can have some my own time during the time. I'll be happy.

My family went to my mother-in-law's house for Obon holidays. You know Obon means to welcome back ancestors souls to their home.
My father-in-law passed away last spring, so we welcomed him with special thought. We made vegetable animals and offered them on the family Buddhist altar.

The cucumber animal was as a horse and the egg plant animal was as a cow.
You think that ancestors come back home quickly riding the horse and then they go back to the other world loading souvenirs on the cow.

And when it was dark, we made a small fire lit using an old newspaper and wooden chopsticks to welcome our ancestors in front of the house.
And we visited a temple later.

Cute

Hi, Sakae.

At first I couldn't understand what the title meant, but

now I know.

In Hokkaido, the summer vacation begins earlier than other

places in Japan. My daughter returns only for OBON, so I

completely forgot about it.

And for the first time I know that you make vegetable

animals to get back the spirits of the dead. It is

interesting.

Both my father and mother passed away and my father-in-law

passed away, too. But I don't remember that we made those

vegetable animals. Maybe you are religious people.

Your father-in-law would be glad to see those animals

and be happy to be back his home.

Re: Cute

Hi, ダイエット妄想ママ.

Thank you for your comment.
Yes, we have short summer vacation in Hokkaido, but winter vacation is longer.
Actually it was the first time for me to make the vegetable animals. It was interesting. However I wonder where souls are.
