I visited Matsumae.

I visited Matsumae yesterday.

After my son came home from the soccer club around noon yesterday, I made six rice balls and my family went to Matumae by car to see cherry blossoms. We had rice balls in the car on the way.
It was a very beautiful day, so we could see Aomori prefecture across the sea.
The cherry blossoms were yet to be in full bloom, but I enjoyed many flowers there.
Then we dropped in a roadside station and had soft ice cream flavored cherry blossoms.

Before we came home from the trip, we went to the restaurant which my son wanted to go to celebrate for the Boy's Day, May 5th. Since my son will have soccer games all day long for the following three days, from May 3 to May 5, we celebrated him yesterday in advance.

We had a good time.

Really nice pictures. What does sakura ice cream taste like?

Re: No title

Hi, Always visiting.

Thank you for your comment.
Sakura ice cream taste a little salty and it includes its leaves, too.
It's difficult to explain how it tastes like. Not fruity, not sweet (the ice cream is sweet though)... When you come to Japan, give it a try!

Yesterday, my family and I visited Matsumae.

Shortly after noon, after my son came home from soccer practice, I packed rice balls so we could enjoy lunch during the drive to see the cherry blossoms in Matsumae.

As it was a very beautiful day, we could see Aomori Prefecture across the sea.

*If it was visible for the whole of the journey. If it was not, then it would be, "As it was a very beautiful day, as we neared Aomori Prefecture, we could see it from across the sea".

Although the cherry blossoms were not yet in full bloom, the many buds which had bloomed still made for a very beautiful sight.

We had also stopped by a roadside station and had some delicious cherry blossom flavored soft ice cream.

On our way home, we ate at a restaurant which my son had wanted to eat at for Boy's Day (May 5th). As my son will be playing soccer all day long from May 3rd through May 5th, we had decided to celebrate it early. My family and I had spent a wonderful day together.

*It is important when giving dates that if the dates given are to be included...then you must use the word "through". "To" means only up to, and not including, the last date given...which would mean through the 4th instead of including the 5th.

Re: English Corrections

Hi, shiroi tora.

Thank you very much for the correction.

Question 1 : Can I say 'the cherry blossoms have yet to be in full bloom'?
I wanted to use 'yet' which includes meaning of 'not'. I mean I didn't want to use 'not'. 'have yet to do' means 'not yet', right?

Question 2 : Do you mean that 'from May 3rd to May 5th' means May 3rd and May 4th?
And 'from May 3rd through May 5th' means May 3rd, May 4th and May 5th?
I didn't understand it well.

Shiroi Tora's Response

Question # 1:

Technically, yes. However, it is not normally said this way. I try to make the corrections as most educated Americans would say it, and understand it to be.

To have used "have yet" would have been incorrect because you are talking of a specific event in time...and a time before that time. You could have used "had yet".

Question # 2:

Yes, your new understanding is correct. The word "to", in this sense, means until. That is why it is often said as, "up to and including..." when a person may just say the word "through". Saying "to" when a person means "through" is a common mistake made by native speakers in America...and it leads to unnecessary misunderstandings.

Re: Shiroi Tora's Response

Hi, shiroi tora.

I checked about 'from~to~' and 'from~through~' on the Internet, too.
It said as the same as yours.
Thank you very much.

Hi, Bonyarinko san.

Thank you for visiting my blog.
I visited your blog, too.
Actually I'm a member of Curves, but I usually go there once a week. I think I have to go there twice a week though.
You seem to study English hard. The 'Sunday Cafe' you mentioned sounds interesting.
