Dogwood (ハナミズキ)

At last, I dared to go to the dentist.
It took three months to book it. I mean, I hadn't had the courage to call the dentist to book since last March. As you may know, I'm really afraid to go there.

At first, one of the dental staff asked me if there were any teeth which were wrong. To tell the truth, there was one, which was the seventh back tooth. Before going the dentist, I had learned from the Internet that the seventh tooth was the last thing many dentists wanted to treat. It had made me frightened more. So I answered timidly, "Nothing." in the end. I had thought that if the tooth was really wrong, the dentist would find it even though I didn't say anything.

Then the dentist checked whole my teeth. He said there were no teeth to treat, fortunately.
I was really really relieved.
After that, a staff said to me to clean my teeth. I asked her to use the lowest cleaning pressure, and to clean by her hand not using the electrical tool in case she can't clean some parts well by the lowest power. I mean, I didn't want her to use the electrical tool by stronger power because it made me painful.
Probably she thought of me that what a bothering patient was. However she obeyed me kindly.

Nevertheless, I thought I was as if a fish were on the chopping board. The only thing I could do was to pinch my arm stronger than pain from the cleaning. It's the best I can do as usual at the dentist.

At first, one of the dental staff asked me if there were any teeth which were painful. To tell the truth, there was one, the seventh tooth, otherwise known as the second molar. Before going to the dentist, I had learned from the Internet that the seventh tooth was the last thing many dentists wanted to treat. Knowing this had made me even more frightened. So I answered timidly, "Nothing". I had thought that if the there were really something wrong with the tooth, the dentist would find it even though I didn't say anything.

*Although there is controversy as to how many spaces there should be after a period, common sense dictates that there should be two spaces after each period, and one after the comas. This allows the mind of the readers to sense the end of a sentence by the space, which allows for a more comfortable reading experience.

The dentist then proceeded to check all of my teeth. Fortunately, he said there were no teeth which needed treatment. I was extremely relieved.

After the dentist completed his examination of my teeth, the dental hygienist said she would then clean my teeth. I asked her to use the lowest power setting on her ultrasonic cleaning tool, and to then use her hand tools in case my teeth needed further cleaning. For me, the ultrasonic cleaner, on anything but the lowest setting, is painful.

She probably thought of me that as a bothersome patient. However, she had kindly done as I had requested.

Nevertheless, I felt as if I were a fish on a chopping board. The only thing I could do to distract my mind from the pain from my teeth during the cleaning process was to cause even more pain in my arm by pinching it. It's the best I can do to tolerate my treatments while at the dentist.

Re: English Corrections

Hi, shiroi tora.

Thank you very much for the corrections.

I'm sorry to say that but I didn't understand what you said about the below.

*Although there is controversy as to how many spaces there should be after a period, common sense dictates that there should be two spaces after each period, and one after the comas. This allows the mind of the readers to sense the end of a sentence by the space, which allows for a more comfortable reading experience.

Do you mean 'I mean,[][]I hadn't had...'?
And I didn't understand 'This allows the mind of........experience.', either.

Could you explain them with another way?

And one more thing,

So I answered timidly, "Nothing". I had thought that if the there were really something wrong with the tooth, the dentist would find it even though I didn't say anything.

Do you say 'the there'?
Do you say 'were' even though for tooth?

Please tell me.

No title

It's over with now! I don't like going to the dentist either. My father in law is very afraid too. He sometimes made an appointment, went there, and then ran away. He came home and said "Sorry, I couldn't go."

Re: No title

Hi Always visiting.

I don't know if I can use the word for your father in law, but he is cute!
His story made me laugh.
Thank you for your comment.

Answers to Sakae's questions

Answers to Sakae's questions:

Very good Sakae. I had made an error.

'I had thought that if the there were really...'

Should have been:

'I had thought that if there were really...'

I had forgotten to erase the 'the' when I was correcting your article.

Touche!

However, 'were' is correct because of 'if' and 'would'. It is a conditional sentence, an unknown at the time. No one knew the condition of the tooth at the time. Ex. - If this were the case, then this would happen.

For the spaces after a period, it is best to use two. It makes for easier reading. For after commas, it is just one space.

Additional Explanation

I need to explain one more thing.

Although it could be said as:

'I had thought that if there were really something wrong with the tooth...'

and...

'I had thought that if there really were something wrong with the tooth...'

The first way emphasizes the word 'really'. This means that although something may be wrong...it is unknown how bad the tooth may be.

The second way emphasizes the word "were'. This means that perhaps nothing at all is wrong.

Belated Realization

Sorry Sakae,

I just realized that no matter the number of spaces put in after a period...the comment comes out the same when it is posted. Although I type in two spaces after a period, and only one after a comma, it still comes out as one space for all. I hate auto correct anything, it is so frequently wrong! :)

Re: Belated Realization

Hi, shiroi tora.

I didn't know about the spaces after a period or a comma, so I was glad to learn it even though it didn't work on the blog site.
And I understand about the other questions.
Thank you very much always.
