Tentsuma 転妻

IMG_5852_convert_20140715133330.jpg

I'm a Tentsuma.
Tentsuma is an abbreviation of 'Tenkinzoku No Tsuma' in Japanese.
That means a wife, whose husband has to move around constantly due to his job transfers.

I sometimes watch Asaichi, which is NHK TV program in the morning on weekdays. And it featured Tentsuma yesterday. Since I'm a Tentsuma, I was very interested in the program.
Eventually, it was not more profitable than I expected.
However, I'd like to write my experience and how it is for me here.

The announcement of my husband's job transfer usually comes suddenly and then we have to move only in two weeks. My husband is always too busy for his job to prepare moving at home after the announcement. So I have to prepare almost everything for moving at home by myself. Besides, I have to go to the City Hall for moving out and other so many things. And we have to go to look for and decide an appartmment we live on the first weekend after the announcement. It's usually far from where we lived, so we stay the hotel. We look around some appartments on Saturday, and we decide the appartment the next day, on Sunday. And we have to move on the second weekend after the announcement.
After we moved, I have to go to many places such as City Hall, Post Office, Bank and so on by myself although I'm unfamiliar with them. And I have to go there by bus. Because I'm not good at driving. However it's also difficult to take the bus for a new comer.

Before I have my son, I had also worked with fulltime. And after moving, I had to look for a new job again. However it was difficult to find a better job because I got older and older whenever we moved, and if an employer knew that I had to move again and I couldn't work a long period, they turned down my applications. To be honest, I didn't want to tell about it, but I had to do.

Now I have to take care of my son as well. When we moved last time, my son was small. So, it was much harder to move. I had to look for an appropriate kindergarten for him, too.

I don't want to live in a small apartment anymore. I want to live in a detached house. I want to have my garden. I want to have a dog.

We have lived here more than five years. My son and I have found some good friends. We don't want to move again.

On the other hand, as a matter of fact, there were many good points after living new places. I admit it.
I got to know many nice people, and I had many opportunities to start new things such as baking bread, making beads accesories, sewing, cooking local foods, traveling new places, and so on as well as learning from new teachers of Ikebana and English.
Above all, if I didn't move, I wouldn't have had my son.

However, I don't want to move again after all.

I sometimes watch Asaichi. It is an NHK TV program in the morning during the weekdays. The show featured Tentsumas yesterday. Since I'm a Tentsuma, I was very interested in watching the program.
After seeing the show, I was a little disappointed with it. I had found that my life had little in common with the portrayed experiences of the Tentsumas featured in the show.

So, I'd like to write about my experiences as a Tentsuma.

The announcement of my husband's job transfer usually comes suddenly and with but two weeks notice before we are expected at the new location. My husband is always too busy at work to prepare for our move. So, I have to organize and prepare almost everything for our move by myself, including having to coordinate with City Hall for our move to the new city, among so many other things. As if that weren't enough, on the first weekend after the announcement, we also have to look for, and decide on, an apartment near where my husband will next be working. As the new location is usually some distance from our old one, we have to stay at a hotel during our apartment search. We browse prospective apartments on Saturday, and we must decide on the one we want by the end of the next day. We then have to move on the second weekend after the announcement.

After our move, I have to go to many places, such as City Hall, the Post Office, the Bank...etc., by myself, although I'm unfamiliar with their locations. Also, as I am not a good driver, I have to go everywhere by bus. Just as for any newcomer to a city, not being familiar with the routes and bus stops fills me with anxiety.

*Above all, if I didn't move, I wouldn't have had my son.

However, all things considered, I would rather not have to move ever again.

*The reason was not given for this sentence. I am not sure why whether you had moved or not would have made a difference.

I can understand why you don't want to move. Packing is tiring. Having to go to the ward office and post office is time consuming. Learning about the new area is also
confusing and difficult.

I wish you could stay too, so you could get a house and a dog.

Re: English Corrections

Hi, shiroi tora.

Thank you very much for the corrections.
I learned that I should add not 'a' but 'an' before NHK. Not only it, there were many things I learned this time.

I was not sure, but it was good for me to change circumstances to have a baby. Because I used to work hard before having my son.

Re: No title

Hi, Always visiting.

I'm glad that you understand me.
Moving is a tough job. And I should throw away things whenever I move, but I can't. So there are many boxes not opened for a long time.
Do you like where you live?
I admit that 'Wherever you live is the best place'.

Hi ! Sakae-san
I have been living in a same place since I was born.
My daughter said " You are just a point, not U turn or I turn person, so you like going abroad or anywhere."
When I was young, I thought my world was very small and I wanted to move somewhere, but now I think not moving is comfortable.

I sympathize with you, but on the other hand you must have gained many experiences.
I hope you will stay in the same place from now on.

Re: No title

Hello, つやつや san.

Probably your old friends live near you. And you have many friends according to your blog. Moreover, you live with your daughter's family. You couldn't be happier, I bet.

Yes, I did gain many experiences. Before coming Hokkaido, I hadn't thought I could live in the snowy area. Now I can live even in Finland! Though I will not live there in the future, many experiences can widen various possibilities.

Now I got to think moving is not so bad.
Thank you for your comment.

Sakae, I do like where I live. I like it a lot because it is safe, nice, and clean.

However, I won't stay here forever. I can't afford a house here, and I don't want to live here for the rest of my life.

Re: No title

Hi, Always visiting.

Then, where do you want to live in the future?
I do like where I live, too. However, to be honest, I want to go back and live in my hometown. Probably it's impossible though.
Thank you for your comment.
