Obon holidays in 2014

My family went to my mother-in-law's house and stayed there for several days during Obon holidays.

It was a beautiful day and the expressway was not so busy.

We dropped in a roadside station on the way to buy some fresh vegetables and some sweets. The pudding topped with strawberry sauce was excellent. And the tomatoes were so sweet.

Genghis Khan, or Mongolian mutton barbecue is popular in Hokkaido. Before I got married, I had never tried it. My husband loves it. So we had it in the yard after we had 'Mukaebi' that was bonfire to welcome spirits of ancestors-in-law.

To be honest, I was afraid to be alone on the second floor at her house because ghosts of ancestors would haunt there. My mother-in-law's house is very old though I've never met them. There was a big mirror on the second floor, but I never looked into it when I was alone at night.

One day during the Obon holidays , we visited Furano, in the middle of Hokkaido.
It was cloudy, but was comfortable. It was 23℃.

Vegetables were very reasonable prices at the roadside station on our way to Furano. I put a new toothpick on the pumpkin to show how big it was. The box of tomatoes was only 250 yen and the pumpkin was only 350 yen. My mother-in-law also bought some flowers for our ancestors there.
Then, we had lunch at a food court, Furano Marche.

The last day, we visited a temple for our ancestors and met our relatives there.
And then, we had ramen for late lunch at Sumire restauramt. My husband loves Sumire's miso ramen. It is very popular and there were many autographs by celebrities on the wall. I usually don't eat miso ramen, but I ordered it there. It was great!

On the way back to Hakodate, I saw a skyful of stars in Osyamanbe. It was breathtaking.

I just wanted to comment on your article from a personal standpoint. I really loved your photos of Hokkaido. It seems you had a wonderful time during your visit. From what I have seen of Hokkaido in various pictures and from some Japanese TV dramas, it is a very beautiful place. I was surprised at how inexpensive the vegetables were at the roadside stand.

I laughed when I read of your ghost fear at your mother-in-law's house. It was very funny when I read how you refused to look into the second floor large mirror at night.

Ok, I will make the English corrections soon.

I very much enjoyed this article...especially the countryside pictures.

Hello, shiroi tora.

Thank you for your comment. I'm happy to hear that.
Yes, there are many beautiful places here in Hokkaido.
However, those prices were special. It was not always in Hokkaido. And many people say that not only vegetables but also seafoods are delicious in Hokkaido.
So, many foreigners as well as Japanese from main land visit here.

We fried the mutton on the domed portion of the Genghis Khan pan while we cooked the vegetables on the flattened ring portion which surrounds the dome.

*Although I had told my mother-in-law that her house was very comfortable, to be honest, I was afraid to be alone on the second floor of her house because I felt that the ghosts of her ancestors would be haunting there. There was a big mirror on the second floor, but I never looked into it when I was alone at night. However, even though my mother-in-law's house is very old, I must admit, I never saw any ghosts.

*I added an introductory statement to show the change of topic.

Re: English Corrections

Hi, shiroi tora.

Thank you very much for the corrections.
I would often write 'on the way to...' mistakenly, but it should be 'on our(one's) way to ...'.
And I learned 'stop at' and so on.

Oh, I don't want to look in a large mirror at night either. That is very scary. You never know what will be standing behind you. :(

Re: No title

Hi, Always visiting.

Haha! Your comment scared me more!
It was good that the mirror in the bathroom of my mother-in-law's house was small.
