my son's original dish 息子の創作料理

IMG_6482_convert_20141017085813.jpg

When I was fixing supper, sprinkling some sake and salt on salmon, my son asked me how it was going to be. I answered I was going to cook salmon meuniere.
He prefers meat to fish, and he complained that my salmon dish was always the same. I grill it as well though. And he said to me that he was going to cook it by himself. I expected how he would cook it and I let him cook as he likes.

He put some honey, soy sauce, chili powder, cumin, and finely chopped parsley on the salmon. He then sliced cucumber and laid them on the salmon. Then he poured some olive oil and butter on the pan, and put the salmon topped with cheese, and put some tomato on the rest part of the pan. Finally, he put the lid on it for about ten minutes.

I thought the seasonings such as cumin or chili powder were not strong, and even honey went with it well. And especially tomato tasted so nice with the salmon.
My husband and I said it was delicious, but my son wasn't satisfied with it.
My son, please cook it again!

Last night, as I was sprinkling some sake and salt on some salmon fillets as part of my dinner preparations, my son asked me what dinner was going to be. I said I was going to cook Salmon Meuniere.

He prefers meat to fish, and he complained that my salmon dish was always the same (I grill it as well though). My son then told me that he was going to cook the salmon all by himself. I knew he knew how to cook, so I let him cook it as he liked.

He put some honey, soy sauce, chili powder, cumin, and finely chopped parsley on the salmon. He then cut a cucumber into thin slices and laid them on the salmon. Then he coated the frying pan with olive oil and butter and put the salmon in and topped it with cheese and put a tomato next to the fish. Finally, he put on the lid and cooked it for about ten minutes.

I thought the seasoning (such as the cumin and chili powder) was not overly strong, and even the honey went with it well. The tomato tasted especially nice with the salmon.

My husband and I said it was delicious, but my son wasn't satisfied with it.

My son, please cook it again!

Hi, shiroi tora.

Thank you very much for the corrections.

Please tell me what is the difference between supper and dinner.
I think dinner is more gorgeous such as a restaurant menu than supper . Do you say 'dinner' even if it is an usual homemade last meal in a day?

My Reply:

You are correct. Dinner refers to the largest meal of the day...not necessarily the last. Supper means the last meal...and as you had said, it is usually used in informal eating. I had incorrectly fallen into the regional use of dinner in America. In the Northern and Western region...we use dinner as a catch-all meaning.

Very good. Your usage was more precise.
