a reunion party

IMG_7725_convert_20150418101842.jpg

One day in March, my old friend informed me that it would be held a reunion party in my hometown in May. It is held every about ten years. Since I couldn't attend it last time, I want to do it this time.
And I started sewing my dress for the party.

However, when I saw a yearly schedule of my son's school recently, I knew the date of the party will conflict with the sports day. The sports day is one of the most important events for my son, so, I had to give up attending the party. I was disappointed.

A few days ago, fortunately, my old friend informed me that the reunion party was postponed in Fall because a person who is in charge of the party is unavailable on that day in May.
I was pleased to hear the news. On the other hand, I was worried whether the dress I'm sewing would be suitable in the latter Fall. The date is not decided yet. The dress I'm sewing is for Summer, but I haven't gotten together with short sleeves although I had cut them already. I'm wondering if I change long sleeves as long as there is extra cloth.

Anyway, I want to attend the reunion party even though the date conflicts with the TOEIC test.

One day in March, an old friend informed me that a *reunion party will take place in my hometown in May. It is held about every ten years. Since I couldn't attend it last time, I want to do it this time.
I have already started sewing my dress for the party.

* The type of reunion should be expressed.

However, when I had seen my son's school's schedule for the year recently, I realized the date of the party conflicts with sports day. Sports day is one of the most important events for my son, so, I had to give up attending the party. I was disappointed.

Fortunately, a few days ago my old friend informed me that the reunion party was postponed until Fall because the person who is in charge of the party is unavailable on that day in May.
I was pleased to hear the news. On the other hand, I was worried whether the dress I'm sewing would be suitable to wear in late Fall. The exact date has yet to be announced. The dress I'm sewing is for Summer. I have yet to attach the already cut out short sleeves. I think I can change the dress into a long sleeved one *so long as there is extra cloth.

* Although 'as long' is often used for both, duration, and as a condition ('provided that' or 'as a condition of')...just to keep it distinct...
'as long' is always used for duration, and 'so long' is used for a condition (although 'as long' may also be used...'so long' is most often used as a condition).

Example: I will promise to be true as long as I live. If you say 'so long as I live'...it has an entirely different, and humorous, meaning (provided I live :)

Anyway, I want to attend the reunion *party even though the date conflicts with the TOEIC test.

* If there is an actual party, then it is correct. If it is just a quiet get together, the it would just be 'reunion'.

Hi, Shiroi Tora.

Thank you very much for the corrections as always.

I was glad to learn about the 'as long' and 'so long'.
