a memento

Today, I decorated in my place for Christmas.

They are all small things. For example, I put a small Christmas tree which is only about 15cm, and three gold pine cones beside the Christmas flower arrangement at the entrance. I put two cards drawn for Christmas on the wall. I put Santa sticks into plant pots in the living room. I put some ornaments beside a TV. I decorated more than these.

One of them, there is a memento of my father-in-law.

My father-in-law had drawn Santa for my son every year, and he gave a Christmas present with his drawing each year as a Santa.

I framed one of his drawings and put it on a kitchen counter.

Recommended Corrections:

Today, I decorated my place for Christmas.

I used many small decorative items throughout the house. For example, I put a small Christmas tree, which is only about 15cm tall, and three gold pine cones, beside the Christmas flower arrangement at the entrance. I put two Christmas cards on the wall and I put Santa sticks into plant pots in the living room. I also put some ornaments beside the TV, as well as other assorted holiday specific decorative items in other areas.

One of the decorative items is a drawing from my father-in-law, which he had made for my son before he died. It is a special memento to his kindness towards my son.

My father-in-law had drawn Santa for my son every year, and he included it with his Christmas gift to my son each time.

I framed one of his drawings and put it on the kitchen counter.

Sakae's Question:

Can I say 'a posthumous work' instead of 'a memento' in this article?

Answer to Sakae's Question:

In short...no. Posthumous means after death. 'Post' meaning after, and 'humus' meaning ground or soil. It literally means, after burial. So, while the deceased may get special recognition posthumously, he may not produce any new works after death.

Re: English Corrections

Hello, Shiroi Tora.

Thank you so much for the corrections and the answer.
I had checked the word 'posthumous' with both dictionaries of English-Japanese and English-English beforehand, but the explanations weren't enough. So, I couldn't understand it exactly.
Now, I understand, thanks to you.
