give up driving

IMG_1902_convert_20171111202351.jpg

I made Pickled Herring (ニシン漬け)and Pickled Daikon radish with Beer (大根のビール漬け) with my friend. I have to wait for a few weeks to be done.

Although I call my mother every day to ask things such as "Was anything broken?", one morning, she called me before I call.
She told me that a thing had been broken on the day before, and it was very large. The thing was my father's car!
When I heard the news, to be honest, I was relieved. Since my father is old enough to drive, his children and relatives often told him not to drive any more. However, my parents didn't agree with us because it was inconvenient.

When my father was driving with my mother, he tried to avoid the oncoming car. His car got on the curb stones and two of left tires were broken. A neighbor looking at it kindly called a mechanic nearby (fortunately, the mechanic was about 100 meters away from the accident. And the mechanic also drove my parents to the nearest their relative from there.
I was glad to hear about the kind people.

Although only two tires were broken, my father decided to scrap the car because his car had been already old. And he finally gave up driving.
They took a taxi, two trains, and a bus, then they managed to get home from their relative's house. It was a long traveling for them.

When I called my mother in the afternoon of the day, I was surprised to hear that my mother started to ride a bike again on the next day of the accident. She hadn't riden a bike for about a couple of years or more. Now she goes shopping by bike.
She will be 78 next month.
Now I have another worrying about her riding, after my father driving.

Re: English Corrections

Hello, Shiroi Tora.

Thank you so much for the corrections as always.

After posting my original article, I thought that I made a mistake about the sentence 'old enough to drive'. I was glad to know the right words for it.
